Nicaragua

Did you know that I lived in Nicaragua for a year?

Well maybe that’s testimony to just how wonderful a country this Central American gem is!

Yes long before the blog days, when I was a footloose and fancy-free backpacker, I was winding my way through Central America when I unexpectedly fell in love with a tiny island off the coast of Nicaragua!

Fast forward a few months and I’d got a job running a bar on the island, was renting a house there and had built up a whole network of friends I still keep in contact with today!

Those were magical days of hammock swinging, coconut sipping and epic scuba diving and personally I can’t think of a better way to have spent a year in my twenties!

But what was the name of this island I hear you cry!

It was, of course, Little Corn Island, a tiny tropical paradise located off the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua.

And this is just a fraction of the amazing-ness that awaits you in this country.

Because from Pacific surf spots like San Juan, to historic cities like Leon, volcanic islands like Ometepe and of course Caribbean gems too, Nicaragua offers it all!

Brilliantly affordably, a whole heap of fun and as intriguing as you would expect from a country in this part of the world, the only thing you have to be careful about is not getting stuck for a year like I did!

Keen to learn more, then check out these posts I wrote about my travels there…
