Big World Small Pockets was created to share the highs and lows of affordable travel – the sort of real, wild, global adventuring that fires up minds and sets hearts racing!

What is Big World Small Pockets All About?

Big World Small Pockets is a UK-based travel blog that aims to help others travel better for less.

With a committed long-term traveller for a creator, (that’s me!) BWSP focuses on adventurous solo travel and sustainable tourism practices, with expert and personal advice from destinations around the world.

The Big World Small Pockets Niche

Much of the blog’s content is centered around the backpacking lifestyle, with a strong focus on destinations favourited by long-term travellers, including Central and South America, Africa, Australia, Southeast Asia and New Zealand and my home continent of Europe.

Within this, Big World Small Pockets also has a strong commitment to more ethical, active conscious and sustainable travel, reflecting my own values as a vegetarian, yoga practitioner and keen greeny!

I am passionate about connecting with local communities while travelling and about staying in a place for longer than it takes to tick off the bucket-list attractions and about exploring the natural world at its best!

As such, working abroad, exploring national parks, going camping, hiking, road-tripping and getting involved in the great outdoors are also common themes.

“It can often be difficult to capture the richness of Kakadu, its heritage, culture and attractions, but Steph Parker achieved that superbly in her posts on the Big World Small Pockets web and Facebook sites. Her photography was excellent and her narrative showed that she had not only done her homework but had the ability to see beyond the surface. Her pieces on her NT Top End travels made for a compelling and entertaining reading.”

Who Has Worked With Big World Small Pockets?

Where is Big World Small Pockets Now?

I began the blog in 2015 whilst living in Queensland, Australia.

In 2016 I spent a year undertaking my great budget 4WD roadtrip around Australia in a trusty old Landrover Defender!

In 2017, having been based in Western Australia for 6 months, the blog became my full-time job and I left Australia to explore Southern and Eastern Africa, ending in my beloved Ethiopia!

In 2018, I returned to Africa to complete my Cairo to Cape Town
journey, before heading into the Middle East, discovering the wonder of Lebanon and then moving onto Eastern Europe.

In 2019, I once again headed to Subsaharan Africa, followed by an exploration of Southeast Asia, the incredible up-and-coming Caucasus region and finally the hiking mecca of South America for the winter.

In the 2020 plan was …. not to fly!

Yes, this huge eco-pledge had me planning to complete a whole year without getting in an aeroplane, as I explored more of Europe, North Africa, Central Asia and the Caucasus region as part of this endeavour.

However, the pandemic had other ideas!

London based in 2021, I began travelling again when it was possible and enjoyed several sponsored European trips working with tour companies and accommodation providers to promote their safe re-opening.

And now we come to 2022 and I’m delighted to say travel is making a real comeback. so look out for plenty more adventures!

I am always open to partnering with companies who may support my brand values and who want to get their brand in front of a travel-keen, targeted audience.

Please drop me an email if you are interested in working together.
