What is Big World Small Pockets All About?

Tunisia, Zaghouan, Me in Zriba El Alia

Big World Small Pockets is a UK-based travel blog that has been helping others travel better for less since 2015.

Much of the blog’s content is centered around offbeat destinations and outdoor adventures, with a strong focus on affordable trips in destinations including Central and South America, Africa, Australia, Southeast Asia and New Zealand and my home continent of Europe.

Within this, Big World Small Pockets also has a strong commitment to more ethical, active conscious and sustainable travel, reflecting my own values as a vegetarian, yoga practitioner and keen greenie.

I am passionate about connecting with local communities while travelling and exploring the natural world at its best!

As such, working abroad, exploring national parks, going camping, hiking, road-tripping and getting involved in the great outdoors are also common themes across the predominant UK and US audience.

“I have been working with Steph a few times now. During that time, I found her to be reliable, enthusiastic, professional, and hard-working. She always researches new topics thoroughly. Steph is easy to work with, communicates well, and is always professional. We are always pleased with the content Steph created for us.” – iAmsterdam

Who Has Worked With Big World Small Pockets?

“It can often be difficult to capture the richness of Kakadu, its heritage, culture and attractions, but Steph Parker achieved that superbly in her posts on the Big World Small Pockets web and Facebook sites. Her photography was excellent and her narrative showed that she had not only done her homework but had the ability to see beyond the surface. Her pieces on her NT Top End travels made for a compelling and entertaining reading.” – Hook Communications

The Face Behind Big World Small Pockets!

Falklands, Pebble Island, Me with Cormorants

The editor, creator, writer and photographer of Big World Small Pockets is Steph, who grew up in Jersey in the Channel Islands.

She began the blog in 2015 whilst living in Queensland, Australia.

In 2016 she spent a year undertaking a great budget 4WD roadtrip around Australia in a trusty old Landrover Defender!

In 2017, having been based in Western Australia for 6 months, the blog became her full-time job and she left Australia to explore Southern and Eastern Africa.

In 2018, she returned to Africa to complete her epic Cairo to Cape Town overland journey, before heading into the Middle East, discovering the wonder of Lebanon and then moving onto Eastern Europe.

In 2019, Steph once again headed to Subsaharan Africa, followed by an exploration of Southeast Asia, the incredible up-and-coming Caucasus region and finally the hiking mecca of South America for the winter.

In 2020, Steph’s plan was not to fly!

Yes, this huge eco-pledge had her planning to complete a whole year without getting in an aeroplane, as she explored more of Europe, North Africa, Central Asia and the Caucasus region as part of this endeavour.

However, the pandemic had other ideas and the mission had to be aborted!

Instead, Steph moved permanently back to London (where she had completed her masters 10 years ago) in 2020 and spent the pandemic setting up her SEO consultancy business and, where possible and safe, enjoying several sponsored European trips working with tour companies and accommodation providers to promote their safe re-opening.

From 2022 onwards, travel well and truly came back on the menu, and Steph’s adventures took off again, albeit from her home base in London.

Now having partnered with hundreds of global travel brands and business, many of them industry leaders and significant DMOs, Steph is continually growing her website and social media following to provide more value to more people.

Please drop her an email if you are interested in working together or learn more about Steph via the About page.
