Brunei
The tiny kingdom of Brunei is an Islamic state, home to just under half a million people, with an extremely high standard of living.
It’s the only sovereign nation on the island of Borneo and is, apart from its access to the South China Sea, completely surrounded by the country of Malaysia.
It’s generally thought that there isn’t a lot to do for tourists in this tiny nation, but how wrong those people are!
I’d allow around 5 days to experience Brunei, including the capital Bandar Seri Begawan and the amazing Ulu Temburong National Park.
Not a cheap country to travel in Southeast Asia, safety in Brunei is, however, very good and you can travel there as a solo female without any problems.
The best time to visit Brunei is January to May when temperatures, rainfall and humidity are at their lowest.
To get there, you can either fly into Brunei’s International Airport (BIA), or travel overland from Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia via a ferry and a bus.
