I always describe Jordan as Middle East lite!

This isn’t to undermine the amazing sights, food, hospitality and history of this fab country, but it’s more a testimony to how easy and stress-free travel can be here.

If you haven’t visited the Middle East before especially as a solo female, starting with Jordan is therefore a great option.

From world class sights such as Petra (whose bucket list isn’t this on, let’s be honest!), through to eating falafel at street cafes in capital Amman, or heading to float in the Dead Sea, Jordan offers a fabulous range of experiences that are all fairly easy to access.

Using local coach companies (I recommend JETT) or hiring a car, are both good options for budget travellers looking to get around, or for those with a bit more cash to splash, there’s also private drivers available too.

I think 7-10 days in a great amount of time to explore Jordan well.

Starting in the capital Amman, allow a few days here to explore this historic city and enjoy a few days trips to spots such as the Roman city of Jerash and the Dead Sea.

After this, journey down along the Kings Highway (with its fab views) to get to Petra – where I advise buying a 3 day ticket for this epic ancient wonder.

Following Petra, it’s time to spend a night in the Wadi Rum desert for some beautiful snaps and Bedouin cultural experiences, before heading back to Amman.
