How to Buy Batumi Tbilisi Train Tickets

Georgia, Tbilisi, Cheese and Weighing Scales

Book through the official Georgian Railway ticket website or app.

Tickets normally become available up to 20 days ahead.

Book promptly for summer, weekends and public holidays.

You need each passenger’s identification details.

Enter names and passport numbers carefully, then bring the same passport to board.

Sales close 10 minutes before departure, but arrive 30 minutes early to find the platform without performing an unwanted station sprint.

Ticket offices and agents also sell seats, although fees can differ, so budget travellers are best to go direct.

Tbilisi Central Station

Tbilisi Central is at Station Square, with access to both metro lines.

It forms part of a shopping complex, so allow time to locate the platforms.

Batumi Central Station

Batumi Central is on Queen Tamar Highway, about 4km north of the Old Town.

If you’re travelling with luggage, you can use a local bus or taxi to get there.

However app-based taxis, like Bolt, are my recommendation – cheap and easy!

What is the Train Journey Like?

Georgia, Tbilisi, Paintings for Sale on Street

The Stadler train is more relaxing than a minibus, with large windows revealing the changing scenery towards Georgia’s greener west, it’s a fab journey across the country.

There are toilets and luggage areas onboard too, although space can become tight.

Keep valuables in a smaller bag and bring water, snacks and downloaded entertainment.

The service is comfortable rather than high-speed though, and delays are possible, so plan accordingly.

Do not book a flight or fixed tour immediately after arrival.
