The Best Hostel in Jerusalem

Now in my 30’s and digital nomading around the world, I’m largely past being able to cope with dorms I’m afraid.

However that doesn’t mean I don’t want to meet other travellers, enjoy activities together and relax in a price-friendly place that feels spirited and soulful.

I also want nooks where I can curl up and read a book, and tables where I can sit and work with a great espresso… not asking too much am I?!

Well it seems not, because Stay Inn Jerusalem have hit the nail on the head!

Yes this top Jerusalem hostel is one of the most gorgeous backpackers I have ever seen!

Sound inviting?

It is!

Jerusalem, Stay Inn, Photo

It’s definitely fair to say that the face of budget travel around the world is changing.

Now people of all ages are taking to the joys of roaming the globe on a shoestring and it’s so great to find hostels that recognise, understand and work with this.

And let me tell you, Stay Inn Jerusalem definitely do all of the above!

Yes seriously stepping up the game in today’s travel world and providing budget wanderers not just with a rather dodgy bed for the night, but actually with a space that is creative and exciting, a place that breeds conversation and community amongst all guests, is what this fantastic Jerusalem hostel is all about.

Incredible Location

Set in the heart of Jerusalem’s new city centre, the first thing you’ll notice about Stay Inn is that it’s incredibly well located.

Just off the main street here – Jaffa Street – Jerusalem’s Light Rail and many buses are just a few minutes’ walk away from the hostel’s front door (which although rather indistinguishable and hard to find is worth the hunt!)

This means whether you need to travel to the city’s museums, memorials or markets, it’s all within close and easy reach.

Ditto the city’s central bus station, which is just a few stops way, and the amazing Old City of Jerusalem which you can easily walk to.

And don’t even get me started on the eateries, cafes and shops that are just a stone’s throw away too.

I honestly think I put on weight just walking past them!

FREE City Tour

But if you’re feeling a little overwhelmed by the city of Jerusalem, then don’t worry the incredibly friendly staff at Stay Inn can help you with just about any information you need.

And if it’s getting your bearings and your head around this hugely layered and complex destination then their FREE city tour is just the answer too.

Yes, this 4 hour amazing programme is led by a professional tour guide and even comes complete with a portable wifi hotpsot, so you can Instagram those sensational pics to your friends as you go along!

When I heard about this amazing opportunity, I immediately signed up and found it the best introduction to the city I could have asked for.

Including the New City and Old City, this was an unbelievably comprehensive and full introduction to Jerusalem and exactly what I needed on the first morning of my jam-packed schedule there.

But the tour isn’t the only thing that is free at this top Jerusalem hostel.

Nope, Stay Inn also have an amazing programme of other free daily events – from hummus workshops to yoga classes – that really does make them the best Jerusalem hostel.

Of course there’s also super fast and free wifi too, as well as a kitchen for guest use and don’t even get me started on the chill-out spaces!

Amazing Chill-Out Spaces

Jerusalem, Stay Inn, Hammock

Ok, do get me started on the chill-out spaces because they are AMAZING!

From a cosy indoor nook to an amazing roof terrace, the communal areas at Stay Inn are sublime.

With a raw urban style, and funky furniture – including soft sofas and stand alone hammocks – the modern feel of this place, and the fact it’s so clean, made me felt instantly at home.

The roof terrace with its cityscape views, chunky wooden tables and exposed lightbulbs is the perfect place to meet other travellers – day or night.

Filled everywhere with beautiful flowers and outdoor furniture, this really is an epic spot to relax in the sun with a lovely cold beer or hot espresso, which are both also conveniently available at Stay Inn!

(I love it when I don’t have to go anywhere for either of these… read. lazy!)

And that’s not to mention the edible plants that scatter the roof terrace too.

From herbs to celery to kumquats, you can help yourself to this urban garden and rest assured you’ve definitely scored a spot at the top Jerusalem hostel!

5 PACKING ESSENTIALS FOR JERUSALEM

#1 Israel and Palestine Lonely Planet – A great guidebook for the maps and background info on this layered and complex city.

#2 Camera – I highly recommend the Sony A6000 mirrorless camera, which is small, compact and ideal for adventurous travellers.

#3 Walking Shoes – You’re gonna do a lot of sightseeing in Jerusalem, so good day shoes are a must. I love my New Balance trainers, which are city friendly and super comfy.

#4 Modest Clothing – If you’re visiting Temple Mount or some of the other important religious sites in this city, do come prepared with at least one long-sleeved, long-legged, shoulder-covering set of clothes.

#5 Small Day Backpack – With long days on your feet in Jerusalem, having a backpack to house your camera, sunscreen, water, snacks and maps is a must here and the Bobby Anti Theft Backpack is ideal for the job – I can guarantee it!

Super Spacious Rooms

Jerusalem, Stay Inn, Hallway

And if you needed any further proof that Stay Inn was the best hostel in Jerusalem, then the rooms here will probably seal the deal!

From “luxury” dorms, each with its own separate shower and bathroom, through to private ensuite rooms with free Netflix and Nespresso machines, this is flashpacker 101!

Each dorm bed even has its own privacy curtain, own reading light and own USB charging points, meaning you can feel like you have your own space despite only paying the fraction of the cost of a hotel room.

Each dorm bed also has its own locker, with an in-built charging point too – perfect if you’re travelling with laptops and cameras (comme moi) that need to be secure and plugged in!

Clean and Bright

Light, bright, airy and CLEAN throughout, I felt like I could have easily stayed in this amazing Jerusalem hostel for a week… or more!

And in many ways, I wish I had (damn that pesky work schedule!)

This was even truer when I got to sample the incredible breakfasts prepared each morning at Stay Inn, because let me just tell you, the shakashuka here is next level!

So yes, with its gorgeous roof terrace, swinging hammocks, free edible treats, deluxe breakfasts, yoga classes, chill-out spots and stylish décor – Stay Inn Jerusalem really is boutique beauty for budget prices.

It definitely ticked all my boxes…. and then some.

As I say, Stay Inn.. and don’t leave!

Inspired Steph! This has a different feel than the last hostels I stayed in, some 6 years ago in Israel. A WAY different feel LOL. Energy thing, you know? From the presentation, to the inviting nature of the place, rocking hostels help you enjoy a location, meet new friends and sleep well, without thinking someone will steal your stuff overnight hehehe….thanks for sharing the review.
