2023 has been the year of the sauna in Estonia!
🇪🇪

A huge part of this country’s culture, I was so lucky I got to try a few of these hot experiences when I was there 🧖🏻‍♀️

Traditional smoke saunas are mostly located in the south of Estonia, near the city of Tartu, but if you’re basing yourself in Tallinn, like I was, then IgluPark provides amazing sauna opportunites just a short taxi ride from capital 🪵

Saunas at Iglupark are housed in wooden cabins and feature a gently warmed relaxation area, as well as the main wood-fired hot part where it’s time to sweat! 🔥

To cool off, there’s then cold showers in separate pods, or ladders where you can descend straight into the Baltic Sea! 🌊
Highly recommended for the full cultural immersion!

I also got to experience traditional whisking here - a form massage where birch leaves are tied into bunches and batted onto the body.
It was actually very relaxing.

Saunas at Iglupark can be booked online and start from 50€ per hour for groups of up to 10 people.
You can get drinks served to your cabin too so it’s the perfect group experience! 🍻

#1 Restaurant Pegasus is situated in the heart of the Old Town and serves up great casual food with lots of choices for veggies.

#2 Cafe Maiasmokk dates back to 1910 and reminded me of Coffee Houses in Vienna thanks to its historic charm.

#3 At night, The Babylon Bar is a fantastic Speak Easy drinking hole in the Old Town. Hidden behind a secret bookcase, it offers amazing cocktails.

#4 Restaurant F Hoone in located in the trendy Telliskivi area and offers lunch and dinner to the arty crowd amidst a lovely exposed brick interior.

#5 Grab a glass at local favourite Nudist Winery.

#6 Head to Junimperium for amazing gin tastings and tours. I got to try 7 different types of their award winning gin!

#7 Back in the New Town, Mekk Restaurant comes highly recommended.

#8 As does Restaurant Kolm Sibulat for Mediterranean and Middle Eastern delights.

#9 If you’re still hungry, PÄRIS Pagar is an amazing deli and eatery in the new town. French feels rule here, with top cheeseboards and bakery treats.

Here’s how to enjoy an amazing day in Tallinn, Estonia 🇪🇪🫶

Wake up in Nunne Boutique Hotel and enjoy your morning coffee with a view of the old town, before heading out to explore the beautiful Medieval part of this city.

Start at St Nicholas’ Church and Museum, which boasts amazing encased 360 degree views of Tallinn from its tower.

Then head up to the Upper Town, via a street called The Short Leg, to enjoy highlights like the parliament building, the Russian Orthodox Church, souvenir shopping for winter woolies, the Danish King’s Garden and the Patkuli Vaateplats viewpoint.

Head down to the Lower Town, via the Long Leg, to check out the clock on the Holy Spirit Church and the famous Cafe Maiasmokk, which dates back to 1910.

Check out the ceiling and don’t miss the hand painted marzipan angels - Heli has been doing this job for 17 years!

Stop by the Flower Market and the Town Hall Square, before enjoying lunch at nearby Restaurant Pegasus.

In the afternoon, grab a Bolt to the trendy Telliskivi area, where you can enjoy great street art, cool cafes and boutique shops.

Don’t miss stopping at Junimperium for a gin tasting and tour.

Telliskivi is an old industrial area, connected to the railway, that has now been regenerated and is home to loads of small quirky brands.

Enjoy dinner here at Fotografiska, before heading to IgluPark for an amazing Estonian sauna expense and a cold plunge in the Baltic Sea!
